Great Job first of all! Trying to get this tool to work with my Q8 charger which connected to a 7s Lipo battery but requesting metrics only return 3 channels and all 3 returns wrong info like niMH and 0 volts. Any idea where I can start trouble shooting to get the different voltages displayed on the screen. Some of the information works like requesting version return all the correct data. And boot-loader and app and renaming also works 100%

Thank you very much for the confirmation that the reboot, and renaming works!

I don't have a Q8, but if you could send me the output of the following command while yours charges a pack, I can try to decode the protocol. The command does the same you did but writes out the raw instead of the parsed protocol data. It would be even better if you could attach a photo of the most detailed screen of the charger the moment you run the command, so it's easier for me to correlate the measurement data with the data sent by the charger. If you can't take a photo, it would be better than nothing if you could tell me what numbers you see on screen, what type of battery you charge, etc.!

Thank you for the quick response! see below as requested:

I did one as text output first, since its more human readable and I think with --debug flag the raw is included anyway, but I also did the raw just incase that helps you more, also see attached photo's of the charger's screen.

It seems like Channel 0 almost reads correctly as the main info at the top of the screen correlates with channel 0's Volts and Amps

Thank you for your quick and in-depth response. A few notes:

1. The photos you uploaded include geo-tags. You might want to delete you comment, I'll summarise it below so your data will not be lost.
2. The --output raw actually does some basic parsing. This makes it easier to analyse as it cuts away data I don't need.

I'm currently refactoring some parts of isdttool to make it easier to add new models. I will use your data as much as I can when I'm done, and I already learnt some things. Unfortunately, the Q8 doesn't seem to be very verbose. At least the response to the metrics command doesn't include a lot of details. If you're willing to help me, I'd get back to you when I'm done with the refactoring.

I'd really appreciate your help, and I'm sorry I can't to a lot more right now.

Thanks for the heads up on the photo's, the metadata totally slipped my mind.

I am totally keen on helping as much as possible, I will spend some time now trying to decode what the charger is sending us back, but I am not that proficient in serial communication to be honest. haha, anyway I'll let you know what I find and keep an eye out if you send any updates,

I just received a Q8 and I'm experimenting with the basic support. Here's some of the things I have found:

0x00 link test always returns
01 91 ee 01
regardless of whether the charger is in bootloader or app mode, so I need to pass -r ignore to get any of the charging commands to work

0xde metrics returns mode id 3 regardless of what mode the charger is actually in
Channel 0 returns valid voltage and current
With no channel argument 0xde returns channel 81 with correct voltage but bogus current

It looks like the main information is actually returned in 0xe4/0xe5. The "IsdLink" Android app calls this packet "ElectricResp". The fields are (16 or 32-bit, determined from total packet size) input voltage, 32-bit input current, 32-bit output voltage, 32-bit charging current, 16-bit cell voltages. I confirmed that the charging current is accurate, however the "input current" seems to incorrectly report 0 (while the display is showing "1W") when idle, and a copy of the charging current when charging.

The "input current" and "charge current" both appear to be positive whether the it's charging or discharging.

I have yet to find any field that indicates what mode the charger is in, nor any fields for temperature, cumulative charge, charge configuration, etc.

Thank you very much for your input. I'm always surprised and glad when someone actually tries to use this.

From my perspective, the project needs a serious refactoring. When I started it, I only had access to a C4. I then expected the chargers to be more compatible protocol-wise. Turns out: They aren't. Or at least not as much as it would be needed if you want to generalize the library for different models. I guess changing the structure to have subclasses of a generic charger class that only handles raw communication would make the code much more readable, adjustable, and the actual tool more useful.

Concerning the Android app: I already had very short look into the BLE protocol. Unfortunately I didn't find anything that I could apply to the USB protocol. But I didn't look to much as I don't have a BLE charger.

From poking around on a Q8Max:
ec5aa501 brings up an "aging test"
0x02 runs the self test
0x22 runs a test mode Balance? Second argument changes a value on the LCD.
