Observations in new Tool - 3D View and Drawing

Hi,

just used the new tool and want to share some observations:

• I am missing a 3D View in the new tool.
• Also the drawing tools are not as performant as the old one. The drag points are similar fast as the old tool, but the lines are updating shortly after. Is this a react issue?
• Furthermore I noticed that rotation distorts shapes, but maybe thats a projection issue.
• After drawing, i am not sure if the tool should directly switch to mouse. When creating a circle i had it two times, that I got a hint, that i need to click and drag to create a circle. And then i had to reselect the circle drawing tool. Bit inconvenient.

Needs a bit of time adjusting, but the buffer, centroid etc. tools are pretty convenient! Also needed time to understand the Feature Editor, lots happening there. But the easy styling is convenient. Nice to see the improvements!

Thanks for the feedback here! We'll be rolling out a feedback form shortly on the new application, but github issues is also fine for te time being.

What is your use case? Why are you missing it? Does it provide some value in how you use the tool? or is it because you just like 3D? Are you talking about the Globe projection? Or are you talking about being able to pitch the map and see 3D buildings at high zooms?

Interesting! We are finding the new drawing tool much more performant. And much easier to manage. What size are your data sets? Here I am dragging a point and see lines updating instantaneously.

The current expected flow is to draw a feature and then be able to interact with features on the map. You are proposing that the tool should stay on the tool selected so that you can continue to draw features using the same tool repetitively?

You can use hotkeys 1, 2, 3, etc.. to toggle the different feature drawing modes. Which could make this quicker for you.

Actually I think what i am missing is just rotation. I often find myself trying to rotate the view and am not able to do it. Pitching would be nice too, but Globe is not necessary.

It is mainly this situation - when you want to draw a circle but dont know that you need to drag. The tooltip helps, but in this case the selected tool could just stay circle.

@dennemark I really appreciate the extra context here.

• I believe rotation is valuable to add. We'll discuss adding rotation & pitch (and handling 3d objects if we decide to add pitch)
• I'm still not able to replicate performance issues in Firefox. But we will be accepting feedback for a while and we will see if this is reported by others as well
• Thanks for clarifying the issue around drawing a circle. Again, feedback is heard and welcomed. We'll incorporate this into our review & updates.
