MDNS? Usage?

What is the MDNS Library used for in your API?

Hello James,

The mDNS library is used to give a "name" to the Arduino board on the network, like arduino.local. This way you don't have to know the board IP and type it into your browser. But it doesn't work on every systems, so depending on your OS you'll need to get the board IP address.

Note that there is now an universal (WiFi + Serial) version on this project available in the form of a library:

If you have many such Arduino devices connected
to your Network however, will they have some kind
of unique name or will they all be called "arduino.local"? :)

Also re aREST -- How does this different from what you originally started
out with?

I'm interested in what you've done here because I had the
exact same idea but with MQTT and the PubSubClient.
Unfortunately it does not work with the CC3000 (there is a hacked up
version that does!)

Hello James,

For your first question, no you can change that name, it's defined inside the Arduino script when you link the CC3000 instance to the name you want to give it. So you can perfectly have arduino1.local, etc.

For your second question, there were two main changes compared to this project. First, aREST is not a sketch, but a library so the code is much cleaner at the end. It's also universal, meaning you can use it with the CC3000 chip just like this project, or send the same commands via the Serial port to an Arduino board (for example via USB or XBee) & it will respond accordingly. There are two examples included with the library depending on what you need (WiFi or Serial).

• Can we change the Content-Type to application/json?
• Can we use IRQ(s) and be a little more Async I/O rather than relying on
  delay(s)?

You're welcome! For your first point, yes I added that in my todo list, that's no problem. In the future I plan to change all answers from the Arduino board to JSON for more uniformity, so I'll add the Content-Type modification at the same type. For your second point, could you elaborate a bit more ? For example in the aREST library I had to introduce a small delay for the Serial communication to work at all transmission rates. Is that the delay you mentioned ?

RE Async I/O (etc) -- Not 100% sure on this (yet) -- I'm still new to
Arduino and Embedded Development myself... I just feel a bit
uneasy about having delay(s) throughout the code especially if it's
waiting on I/O. I'll have to look into it more...
