Hello.
In relation to maintaining this I am willing, though I do not have any experience mantaining anything and expect it to be a steep learning curve, but I think I'll manage, although I'll perhaps need some assistance.
I regard to your other questions, I don't know what you mean by "tagging a release" or "archiving it". I have to confess I don't know much about these things, Ionly know the basics of working with git.

Tagging is described here: https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Git-Basics-Tagging
"archive" a repo is a github feature indicating that it is no longer maintained. This is not relevant if you intend to maintain it.
I will propose schemoid to be included in f-droid.
