✅ Import Complete - Testing Instructions

What Was Done

  1. ✅ Fixed the import_aliases.sh script to write aliases directly to ~/.zsh-aliases
  2. ✅ Fixed quote handling to preserve original format
  3. ✅ Installed fixed quicksavealias_mac.sh with corrected needsQuoting function
  4. ✅ Imported 151 aliases from .bash-aliases-dev

Aliases Imported (151 total)

Skipped (11 aliases):

  • Oh-My-Zsh conflicts: grep, egrep, fgrep, ls, ll, l.
  • Bash-specific: alg, algrep, lsal, fngrep, sval
  • Windows-specific: ipython, node, winget

Successfully Imported:

  • Git aliases: gadu, gst, gci, gck, gckb, gpl, gpo, grb, etc.
  • Docker aliases: dps, dexec, dl, dlf, dcb, dcu, dcud, etc.
  • Kubernetes aliases: kc1, kc2, kex, kl, klf, kgp, kdp, etc.
  • Maven aliases: mci, mcist, mi, mist, mc, mt, etc.
  • Navigation: cdgit, cdcfg, cdida, cdod, cdres, sb, etc.
  • And 100+ more!

How to Test

Step 1: Open a Fresh Terminal

IMPORTANT: Close your current terminal window/tab and open a completely new one!

This is necessary because:

  • The current shell has leftover state from our testing
  • A fresh shell will load .zshrc cleanly
  • This simulates how it will work every time you open a terminal

Step 2: Test Your Aliases

# Test navigation
cdgit          # Should go to ~/git
pwd            # Verify you're in ~/git

# Go back to QuickSaveAlias
cd ~/git/QuickSaveAlias

# Test git aliases
gst            # Should show: git status

# Test docker (if docker is installed)
dps            # Should show: docker ps

# Test kubernetes (if kubectl is configured)
kc1 get nodes  # Should run kubectl command

# List all your aliases
lsal | wc -l   # Should show 200+ (151 imported + Oh-My-Zsh defaults)

# Search for specific aliases
algrep docker
algrep git
algrep k8s

Step 3: Add New Aliases

# Add a test alias
adal mytest 'echo "Hello from QuickSaveAlias!"'

# Test it
mytest         # Should print: Hello from QuickSaveAlias!

# List it
lsal | grep mytest

If You See Errors

Error: command not found: gadu or similar

Problem: Aliases didn't load

Solution:

# Check if .zsh-aliases exists and has content
wc -l ~/.zsh-aliases    # Should show 150+

# Check .zshrc configuration
grep "special_aliases" ~/.zshrc

# Should show:
# [ -f ~/.zsh_special_aliases.sh ] && source ~/.zsh_special_aliases.sh

# If missing, run:
cd ~/git/QuickSaveAlias
./QUICK_FIX.sh

Error: Parse errors or syntax errors

Problem: File has formatting issues

Solution:

# Re-import from scratch
cd ~/git/QuickSaveAlias
./import_aliases.sh my_aliases_bkup/.bash-aliases-dev

# Then close and reopen terminal

Future Imports

To import more aliases from other backup files:

cd ~/git/QuickSaveAlias

# Import from any alias file
./import_aliases.sh ~/path/to/more-aliases.txt

# The new aliases will be ADDED to existing ones (not replaced)

# After import, close and reopen terminal

Files Created/Modified

  • ~/.zsh-aliases (151 imported aliases)
  • ~/.quicksavealias.sh (updated with fixed functions)
  • ~/.zsh_special_aliases.sh (Oh-My-Zsh default special aliases)
  • ~/.zsh-aliases.backup-* (automatic backups from each import)

Verification Checklist

  • Opened a fresh terminal
  • No errors on terminal startup
  • gadu command works
  • cdgit command works
  • lsal shows 200+ aliases
  • Can add new aliases with adal

Success!

If all the above tests pass, your QuickSaveAlias is fully working with all your imported aliases! 🎉

You can now:

  • Use all 151 imported aliases
  • Add new aliases anytime with adal
  • Import more aliases with ./import_aliases.sh
  • Manage aliases with chal, rmal, cpal, mval
