Keep URL original?

Replacing the user-visible URL comes with quite a few downsides and honestly quite a poor UX.

I it possible to replace only the page content with the proxied website but keep the URL visible in the URL bar the original link? This would solve most of the problems I experience with this extension.

(Genuine question; I am not versed in browser extensions and their capabilities.)

We use webRequest API to redirect links, a very simple API. What you're talking about is:

1. intercept every single request coming from e.g. reddit.com
2. modify the request url and headers
3. send it the frontend server
4. intercept the frontend response
5. modify its url and headers

I have no idea if something this low-level is even possible, but I'm sure it will get a ton of CORS Errors.
