JSON File cracking MacOS

I'm trying to run this on my  JSON wallet file with the private key. I've gotten it to work and spit out the passwords but I'm confused... what does it need to read the json file if it just spits out the pwd combinations. Will this actually tell me which password  is the right one? And how would I know?
