I have been getting this bug quite consistently in redub with forced build while trying to build a hello world with my engine.
I'm a little unsure how should I deal with this issue.

Beyond that, I've noticed with redub that using --cache-retrieval=hardlink seems to be broken in Windows whenever outputting the cache in a different drive.

Wrt. hard links, they definitely don't work across drives/volumes. And on Windows AFAIK only supported by NTFS, not the FAT variants.

It works, I'm using the default behavior, but in theory hardlink should be faster. I could try to detect and use hardlink only when I should.

Regarding that bug on the temp, do you guys have any input?

If you're only hitting the locked-files problem for the IR cache here, not for any other files (object files etc.), I guess it's specific to the IR cache code, maybe not closing files eagerly. Renaming files and dirs on Windows has been a PITA on multiple occasions (incl. at work), because of crappy Anti-malware solutions apparently locking files for a brief period after creating them etc.
