I wonder if this is ever going to be fixed because it's likely a lot of redstone contraptions depend on it. It seems like Mojang doesn't really like changing redstone mechanics for already existing blocks.

Yeah that's true in general but come on, it's clearly unintended and not very helpful for building (especially the first comparator bug) that it seems unlikely that any machine would use this “function-reducing” bug,since you can't move dust, rep and comp by piston

Yeah, I agree. Although I'd wager due to Redstone parity, it would be off by default just so you only turn it on when you actually want the fix instead of raking builds by default.

1.7.10's heyday is passed so it's already a moot point, but you should realize that this bug may have prevented thousands of cool redstone builds from ever seeing the light

There are a lot of strange redstone behaviors that originate from its rather messy code. I am not entirely sure what kind of changes I would need to make to alter redstone behavior for this, especially without risk of breaking existing builds.
