Loading mask layer using GCOV reader?

Does the gcov reader have a utility function for accessing the /science/LSAR/GCOV/grids/frequency[AB]/mask layer, similar to the getImageDataset function for retrieving the backscatter values?

Turns out getImageDataset supports the mask layer as well:

The polarization parameter name and its docstring strongly suggest only the radar return data sets are supported. At least the docstring should be updated to indicate support for any data set under the frequency[AB] groups.
