Vocab enumeration --> ontology engineering #1

I came across your copepod UVP example here. It's an interesting use case that should be tossed over to the vocab task team for them to think about. It seems like we are at the stage of just trying to get the basic vocabulary aspects of OBIS better enumerated so we can critically examine what we have. The focus is on the measurement or fact part of the event data, but there are other parts of the Darwin Core data model that should also be examined in this same vein.

The search for UVP methods here is interesting and indicative of the current state where we do not have a developed ontology or a linked information system to guide the search. All we can do is look for words or phrases in the textual part of our immediately available information for hits. What we want to be able to do is exploit a network of mapped and increasingly well defined concepts to answer questions like what seems to have motivated this example. I'd hope that the vocab team is keeping this longer term motivator in mind while working through the steps of getting a handle on what we need to work through in this process.
