After the port from 1.16.5 to 1.18.2, the frequency of Dullthorns were majorly decreased, my guess is that this wasn't intentional but I frankly have no idea.
Dullthorns add a lot to the Glowstone Canyon, so it's weird that their frequency was nerfed in 1.18.2

The first screenshot was taken on Crucial 2, a 1.16.5 modpack which features Infernal Expansion.
This second screenshot, was taken on a (relatively fresh) 1.19.2 instance, with Infernal Expansion as the primary mod.
Notice how the 1.19.2 screenshot features no dullthorns at all, compared to the Crucial 2 screenshot?
Hell even using the /place feature command, hardly spawns dullthorns most of the time, even if you are on a valid surface block
