In addition to standard community guidelines, this project is committed to emotional safety for all participants. We recognize that:
- Contribution anxiety is real: Not everyone feels confident contributing
- Reversibility reduces stress: Knowing changes can be undone reduces pressure
- Attribution matters: Recognition is a form of emotional compensation
- Withdrawal is acceptable: Contributors can step away without judgment
- Experimentation is encouraged: It's safe to try new approaches
Examples of behavior that contributes to a positive environment:
- Demonstrating empathy and kindness toward other people
- Being respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences
- Giving and gracefully accepting constructive feedback
- Accepting responsibility and apologizing to those affected by our mistakes, and learning from the experience
- Focusing on what is best not just for us as individuals, but for the overall community
- Using welcoming and inclusive language
- Being patient with new contributors and questions
- Assuming good intent in interactions
- Supporting contributors' emotional well-being
- Respecting requests to withdraw contributions
- Celebrating successes and learning from failures together
Examples of unacceptable behavior include:
- The use of sexualized language or imagery, and sexual attention or advances of any kind
- Trolling, insulting or derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks
- Public or private harassment
- Publishing others' private information, such as a physical or email address, without their explicit permission
- Dismissing or attacking requests for emotional safety accommodations
- Pressuring contributors to maintain contributions after withdrawal request
- Removing attribution or credit from contributions
- Malicious code modifications intended to harm users or the project
- Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting
Community leaders are responsible for clarifying and enforcing our standards of acceptable behavior and will take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any behavior that they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.
Community leaders have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions that are not aligned with this Code of Conduct, and will communicate reasons for moderation decisions when appropriate.
This Code of Conduct applies within all community spaces, and also applies when an individual is officially representing the community in public spaces. Examples of representing our community include using an official e-mail address, posting via an official social media account, or acting as an appointed representative at an online or offline event.
Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be reported to the community leaders responsible for enforcement at:

All community leaders are obligated to respect the privacy and security of the reporter of any incident.
- All reports are treated confidentially
- Reporter identity is protected
- Details shared only with those who need to know

- Acknowledgment: Within 24 hours
- Initial Assessment: Within 72 hours
- Investigation: Within 1-2 weeks
- Resolution: Communicated to all parties involved
Community leaders will follow these Community Impact Guidelines in determining the consequences for any action they deem in violation of this Code of Conduct:
Community Impact: Use of inappropriate language or other behavior deemed unprofessional or unwelcome in the community.
Consequence: A private, written warning from community leaders, providing clarity around the nature of the violation and an explanation of why the behavior was inappropriate. A public apology may be requested.
Community Impact: A violation through a single incident or series of actions.
Consequence: A warning with consequences for continued behavior. No interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction with those enforcing the Code of Conduct, for a specified period of time. This includes avoiding interactions in community spaces as well as external channels like social media. Violating these terms may lead to a temporary or permanent ban.
Community Impact: A serious violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior.
Consequence: A temporary ban from any sort of interaction or public communication with the community for a specified period of time. No public or private interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction with those enforcing the Code of Conduct, is allowed during this period. Violating these terms may lead to a permanent ban.
Community Impact: Demonstrating a pattern of violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior, harassment of an individual, or aggression toward or disparagement of classes of individuals.
Consequence: A permanent ban from any sort of public interaction within the community.
You have the right to:
- Take breaks: Step away when you need to
- Say no: Decline requests that cause stress
- Ask questions: No question is too basic
- Make mistakes: Everyone is learning
- Withdraw contributions: Following proper procedures
- Request credit: Be recognized for your work
- Change your mind: Reverse decisions with notice
You commit to:
- Respect boundaries: Honor contributor limits
- Provide context: Explain decisions clearly
- Be patient: Remember everyone's learning curve
- Support growth: Encourage experimentation
- Protect attribution: Maintain proper credit
- Enable reversibility: Preserve version history
- Reduce anxiety: Create safe space for contributions
You pledge to:
- Be constructive: Focus on improvement, not criticism
- Be specific: Provide actionable feedback
- Be timely: Review within reasonable timeframes
- Be respectful: Treat all contributors with dignity
- Be educational: Explain the "why" behind suggestions
- Be encouraging: Acknowledge good work
- Be supportive: Help contributors succeed
Try to resolve conflicts directly with the other party:
- Assume good intent
- Use "I" statements
- Focus on behavior, not person
- Seek to understand their perspective
- Look for win-win solutions
If direct communication doesn't work:
- Request a mediator from maintainers
- Present your perspective calmly
- Listen to the other party
- Work toward mutual understanding
- Accept the mediator's guidance
If mediation fails or isn't appropriate:
- File a formal Code of Conduct report
- Provide detailed information
- Cooperate with investigation
- Respect confidentiality
- Accept enforcement decision
Enforcement decisions can be appealed:
- Submit Appeal: Email conduct@robot-vacuum.example.com within 14 days
- Provide Justification: Explain why decision should be reconsidered
- Review: Different maintainer reviews the appeal
- Decision: Final decision communicated within 2 weeks
- Resolution: Appeal decision is binding
