🏗️ Architecture: Metapackage-Based System

This release introduces a fundamental change to how HaLOS is built and maintained:

• New halos metapackage - Base system now installed as a single dependency package that pulls in:

  • Cockpit web interface with networking and storage modules
  • cockpit-apt package manager
  • cockpit-branding-halos
  • Docker and cockpit-dockermanager

• New halos-marine metapackage - Marine variants extend the base with:

  • marine-container-store
  • signalk-server-container

Benefits: Simplified updates, better dependency management, and easier maintenance.

📦 New Package Manager: cockpit-apt

The Cockpit Packages module replaces Runtipi as the primary interface for installing and managing applications. This provides:

• Native Debian package management through the Cockpit web UI
• Container app store with marine-specific applications
• Better integration with the system update mechanism

🗑️ Runtipi Removed

Runtipi has been removed from HaLOS images. All app management is now handled through:

• cockpit-apt: For APT packages and container apps
• cockpit-dockermanager: For Docker container management

🔧 APT Repository Updates

• Updated to trixie-stable distribution for improved stability
• Added dedicated hatlabs component for HALPI2-specific packages

Migration Notes

Users upgrading from v2025-10-27-2:

• Runtipi installations are no longer supported; migrate apps to container packages via cockpit-apt
• System packages can be updated via sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
