geequelshell doesn't prompt for password with modern versions of java (alpine arm)

Using zulu 1.8.0_322, with geequelshell 1.0.6 and no -u/-p, I'm prompted for a username and then password.

using jdk-11.0.1, I'm also prompted.

using adopt 11.0.11, I'm also prompted.

using zulu 11.0.14.1, I'm also prompted.

using temurin 11.0.27, I'm not prompted.

I'm told there's a version of 1.8.0 (~442) it doesn't prompt.
