Hello, i am Pauline,
I work for a public transport authority in France. We produce GTFS feeds internally, and we also work with a contractor who converts our data into the French NeTEx profile.

With the release of NeTEx 2.4 (including the French profile), new submodes such as schoolCoach are being introduced.

Is there any plan to update or extend the GTFS route_type values (or related extensions) to better support these new NeTEx submodes ?

If not, are there recommended best practices for mapping such NeTEx submodes (e.g. schoolCoach) into the existing GTFS route_type framework?

There are extended route types that are not standardized in GTFS but are used almost everywhere: https://developers.google.com/transit/gtfs/reference/extended-route-types
