deborphan is no more in trixie. As per #20 it is problematic in Ubuntu 24.04 I had some problems with it on machines that aren't mine! On mine I had a long list of packages to keep, and I didn't really understand why some of them had to be there. I have now removed deborphan from my Ubuntu system.
debfoster is the recommended replacement. It doesn't operate the same way, and it was quite exhausting to use on my system, in that it asks about every single package that wasn't a dependency, of which I had many. But it found lots of packages I didn't use, and in the end saved me a surprising amount of space.
On a fresh install, if used regularly, I suspect it's much less time consuming to use.
In any case, I suggest making purgeorphans and removeorphans use debfoster. (By default it purges, but it can be made to just remove.)
