Unable to connect to GitHub MCP Server from within OpenCode

I'm trying to connect OpenCode to the GitHub MCP Server, but it appears the AI has no access to any GitHub-related tools.

✅ What Works

• The Context7 MCP connection works correctly.
  • Confirmed that environment variable injection ({env:CONTEXT7_API_KEY}) is functioning.

❌ What Doesn’t Work

• The GitHub MCP connection doesn’t seem to initialize.
• The AI has no access to any GitHub-related tools.

The local one works fine, when I try to use the remote mcp, I get: "Incompatible auth server: does not support dynamic client registration".

That works for me too 🤦 Can't believe I forgot the authorization header...

For the OP: it works with {env:GITHUB_MCP_PATH} not ${env:GITHUB_MCP_PATH}.

Running into related issues, so this is an extension of this, it seems like Github is not allowing OpenCode to make dynamic client registrations when oauth is enabled.

I am, however, facing related issues with the {env:OC_GITHUB_PAT} on the official GitHub MCP implementation currently falling back to @modelcontextprotocol/server-github on local.

Edit: This also creates a security Issue especially on Warp Terminal When tabs are split (when utilising @modelcontextprotocol/server-github)

Add the code below to one of the following to your;

• ~/.zshrc - Unix
• ~/.bashrc - Unix
• $PROFILE - Powershell
  etc.

For this, I am going to explain PowerShell as that is what I use;

1. Run notepad $PROFILE in your Terminal.
2. Add the code below to the end of the file that is opened in your notepad.

$env:OC_GITHUB_PAT = "your_github_personal_access_token"

3. Save File
4. Run refreshenv in the Terminal.
5. Run $env:OC_GITHUB_PAT to verify output.

Expected Response: your_github_personal_access_token

Please Note: opencode mcp debug will show as non sucessful, but in the TUI will work as intended.

Are you setting up the env var in your $profile or ~/.bashrc that could potentially be the issue.

Note: you want to set the {env:name} as the variables name not actual key.

That work's for me in the TUI itself however opencode mcp debug states otherwise.

Hey, I tried all the recommendations from the comments, but I still can’t get it to work. This is my config:
