We impedance measured all the P30B cells that were obtained for FS-4 and this work will demonstrate various ways of organizing them to reach certain optimizations.
Some things worth optimizing for:
- Balanced SOC
- We want each cell within a module to discharge at the same rate so cells with lower impedance don't carry the load significantly more than those with higher impedance. This results in a net higher SOC and less need for balancing the voltage of specific cells.
- Even heating
- We know which cells will receive the most cooling because some are nearer air paths and some will be closer to the side of the busbar that extends out likely granting more cooling than the side that is closest to the most cells. We want a pack that doesn't overheat one single cell.
Goal: Balance such that the overall impedance of the battery is minimized and such that each module has roughly the same impedance with lower impedance cells closer to more cooling.
