In the docs, one of the middlewares mentioned is connect-rid.

But, connect-rid has not been updated since 2014 and seems to have been archived by its authors in May 2025. Is it a good idea to remove it from the middleware docs or replace it with something (I don't know what) that is supported?

Yeah, makes sense to remove it since it's archived. A few alternatives that could potentially replace it:

• express-request-id - simple and straightforward, uses UUIDs
• cls-rtracer - more full-featured, uses AsyncLocalStorage so you can access the request ID anywhere in your call chain (great for logging)

Both are reasonably maintained and have decent adoption. I'd lean toward cls-rtracer as a recommendation since it's the more modern approach and solves the "how do I get the request ID in my service layer" problem that people often run into.
