Communication styles exercise

  • The "before you begin" box - I think it'll read better if we add "You will need: 15 minutes of time, a way to take notes..."
  • Add more context to the Step 2:
(Copied from virtual workshop participant handout)
Reflect on your results and make notes on the following questions
Are you a passive or active communicator?
Passive communicators are quieter, avoid attention, and talk around subjects instead of directly saying their thoughts. Active communicators are more assertive and state their meaning clearly.
Do you prefer verbal or written communication?
Are you an internal or external processor?
When you need to think through an issue, do you prefer talking the options out loud with another person, or thinking things over quietly in your head?
Are you verbose or to the point?
Do you like to give lots of detail and context when sharing your thoughts, or do you prefer to get to the point and share only the most relevant information?

Leadership development goals

  • Add a link to the DIRECT page with definitions of each competency (e.g. Definitions of each competency are here)
  • The competencies table needs numbers for the competencies so the competency are (e.g. E2) makes sense

Ground rules

  • Out of scope - I would specify "personal and wellbeing matters unrelated to work" as someone might want to bring up something affecting their wellbeing at work
  • The session frame - check in - also a space to provide updates on how people have taken their peers advice on things they brought to the group previously and acted on it
  • Roles - need to add a separate timekeeper role
  • Roles - add that moderator can rotate during the session (e.g. for bringing cases we switch the moderator/timekeeper each time so everyone has a chance to bring a case/listen/have a role)

Session formats

  • Case consultation - can we add a separate section for clarifying questions? E.g. 10 minutes to present the case & define the key question, then 5 minutes for clarifying or Yes/No questions
  • Case consultation - consultation - I think we should have this as the case-giver listens only, no response from them to their peers advice until the close section
  • Peer support/resonance - open round - rephrase to "each person shares what is currently at the top of their mind"
  • Goal setting - set/refine - add in that they set/refine their goals with peer feedback/review
