Problem
When taking a screenshot and selecting a custom area, there is currently only a dashed outline indicating the selected region.
Proposal
It would greatly improve the user experience if the background were slightly dimmed while selecting, leaving the chosen area fully illuminated. This would provide stronger visual feedback and make it clearer which portion of the screen is being captured.
This behavior is common in many modern screenshot tools and helps reduce visual ambiguity, especially on complex or bright backgrounds.
The effect could apply to:
Custom area selection
Window capture
Possibly full-screen capture (brief dim/flash feedback)
This would enhance clarity and align well with elementary OS's focus on polished, intuitive design.
Prior Art (Optional)
Screenshot type on windows or another linux distribution with this visual effect
