Header & Branding

The main challenge with the site is the header structure, which needs to be adjusted to comply with JHU brand standards.
How this can be improved
JHU brand guidelines don’t permit alternate or third-party logos in the main header (though they can appear elsewhere on the site)
Since the site will be under the *.publichealth.jhu.edu domain, the header should incorporate the Bloomberg School of Public Health horizontal blue logo (attached).
The site title should move to the top-most section, separate from the navigation
Reference: See attached header comp (Bat-Com-header-comp.png.jpg) for recommended layout
Colors

The site maintains a lovely, limited palette focused on heritage blue, one alternate blue, and some grays.
There’s currently some color variation throughout the site and deviations from JHU brand color values. The color that appears to be “Heritage”, and so do the alternate/highlight blues. Please review all color values site-wide and replace them with exact brand specifications. For example, the color in the charts looks to be spec’d correctly, while others on the page vary.
Concerning the alternate blue you use for links and icons. While they should be consistent, they must also maintain the current contrast ratios for accessibility. For example, the active link color in the main navigation uses #1D4ED8, while the “Read Review” links are in #3b82f6. Both of these colors appear to be darker shades of “Medium Blue” and meet accessibility and brand standards. But the shade used should be consistent throughout the site.

Other Notes

JHU has moved to open-source fonts hosted on Google Fonts, which can be added easily at no cost. Please incorporate these fonts following the specifications at: JHU typography guidelines
Quick reminder: please fix the jumbled/distorted logo in the footer.
Completely optional, but you may want to consider merging “What we do” and “Who we are” into a single robust “About Us” page, with “What we do” content and researcher list appearing first. This would create a more comprehensive overview while simplifying navigation.
Overall accessibility seems to be in good shape. One area of mild concern is the “Read more” links. Ideally, these could be more specific and informative.

Other things to note:

  • The refresh button on the Manuscripts page took more than a minute loading. On a successful refresh, there has not been a new manuscript since February, which is suspiciously long
  • Batcom admin pages are not refreshing/refetching on change
  • For team members, emails need to be hidden
  • Add ability for admins to change page headers (such as background papers)
  • Admin page modals cannot be scrolled on Chrome in Windows
  • Confirm Admin > Settings > Email. Where is this used?
