Question tool modal does not appear (blocks workflow)

Summary

The OpenCode question tool should open a modal with choices and keyboard focus. The modal is not appearing, which blocks the OpenWork workflow.

Expected

• Question tool triggers a modal with selectable options.
• Focus is active so users can use arrow keys/type immediately without clicking.

Actual

• Modal does not appear when the question tool triggers.

Impact

• This is a blocker for OpenWork in OpenCode flows.

Hi @benjaminshafii,

OpenCode sends question events but OpenWork does not show a modal to answer them. The workflow is blocked.

Root Cause

The session event handler does NOT handle question.asked events. No question modal component exists.
SOLUTION:
Show one question at a time in a modal.

If OpenCode sends 3 questions:

1. Show Question 1 → user answers → next
2. Show Question 2 → user answers → next
3. Show Question 3 → user answers → send all answers to OpenCode

Why?

• Simpler than showing all questions at once
• Matches how permission modal works in OpenWork

Design Choices

1. Progress Text?

Show "Question 1 of 3" (simple, user knows where they are)

3. Keyboard Navigation?

Option A: Arrow keys up/down + Enter to select (standard)

I've implemented the fix for this issue, not just reporting it. Here's what I built:

What I Implemented

Features

• One question at a time: Shows "Question 1 of 3" progress
• Keyboard navigation: Arrow keys (↑↓) + Enter to select
• Auto-advance: Single-select options advance automatically
• Custom input: Supports free-text answers when custom: true
• Visual design: Consistent with existing OpenWork UI (blue selection, rounded cards)

Testing

To verify:

1. Run pnpm tauri dev
2. Create a new session
3. Type: "use the question tool to ask me if I like pizza"
4. The modal should appear with options

• OpenWork: Built from source (latest main + my changes)
• OS: macOS
