Black screen on fedora 42

Used the curl command to install exo and it went fine, with no errors (had to install cairo with cairo-devel to make it work with no errors)

When i started a session with niri i just see a black screen with a cursor, niri worked fine before and in an arch installation i made exo works fine so it's a fedora thing

maybe neither the wallpaper or exo are loading, if you have kitty installed super+t should open a terminal, if not I don't know how I could help.

Kitty does open (kinda surprising, didn't expect niri to still work)

ignis init does say that gtk4 layer shell is not found even though it is installed

the black screen is just the default background color in the niri config, shows up if theres no wallpaper (daemon) set

sounds like a you problem tbh. can't help you there.

Installing gtk4-layer-shell-devel fixed the issue
Even though it's now complaining about ignis-gvc

ignis-gvc seems to be a common issue in fedora, in the script it fails to build so you have to install it manually.

Ignis is a pain to manually build since they have removed the meson files and their own documentation uses meson to build it, will open an issue about that

It does give more errors but it's probably just ignis not working properly, sorry for taking your time and thank you for helping

Made it work but the icons dont show even though i have the material design font installed correctly

I'm not sure what the correct package actually is for fedora

Installed material-icons-fonts which should work fine i can try finding if theres something i'm missing https://packages.fedoraproject.org/pkgs/material-icons-fonts/material-icons-fonts/

changing Material Symbols Outlined with Material Icons Outlined in all the style files in the ignis folder fixed the issue

probably matugen didnt work fine and the wallpaper didnt set correctly, you should be able to use niri as intended

Try running the installer again with this command
PATH=\"$PATH:~/.cargo/bin\" exoupdate and select full installation
