`microtype` protrusion does not work for first character in main and inner environments

For some reason, microtype protrusion does not work at the start of any of the scripture package environments.

• It's not a general problem with lists (since, quotation is not impacted this way).
• Could be to do with \peek functions that occur at start of environments?
• Not super noticeable expect if using protrusion to better line up starting quote marks in CJK text.

3a5ad07 does not work with UTF-8 characters at the start of environments and pdftex engine.

This is a bit fragile and there are definitely occasions on which it won't work, but it's better than nothing.
