Alt Text for images

I’ve really enjoyed using flextable to create tables with images for our .docx reports — it’s been incredibly helpful. Our organization has been placing a strong emphasis on accessibility, particularly ensuring that screen readers can access meaningful alt text for images. It would be fantastic if colformat_image() could support automated alt text, as that would make it much easier to create fully accessible reports.

Thanks for the suggestion. Before looking into this, I need to understand what you're actually trying to achieve.

I suspect this is driven by a Section 508 compliance audit rather than an actual accessibility need. A table where the main cell content is an image is inherently visual, adding alt text to it doesn't make it accessible, it just checks a box.

What kind of images are in your tables, and what information do they convey? Do you have any reproducible example to provide ?
