Lost all my shortcuts configs after the main update on Marth, 16 2026

I found that none of my shortcuts works yesterday, then when I tried to check the configs of shortkeys by clicking the extension icon on top bar, it seems blocked and the icon only show the click down intermediate highlighted state and nothing poped up, so I've tried to restart my Chrome several times then repeat the previmg-, after that, a brand new UI poped up and I realized that the extension updated with a major version, but none of my shortkeys configs show in the new UI config page.

I have to manully re-config all my shortkeys and it works now. Not sure if any of my extensions conflicted with shortkeys since I have lots of them.

Sorry about this! v5 is fully backward-compatible with v4 data and should have automatically migrated your shortcuts on update. The fact that the popup was unresponsive and it took multiple restarts to get the new UI suggests Chrome may have had trouble with the update process itself, possibly treating it as a fresh install rather than an update, which would skip the migration step.

Is there any chance your data is still sitting in local storage? If you'd like to check, you can open chrome://extensions, find Shortkeys, click "Inspect views: service worker", and paste this into the console:

chrome.storage.local.get('keys', d => console.log(d))

If it prints your shortcuts, they're still there and we can help recover them. If it prints {}, then Chrome unfortunately cleared the storage during the update.

Either way, I'll look into making the migration more resilient for cases like this. Thanks for reporting it.

I've tried the code and it just prints the updated configs instead of the losted ones, but that'ok.

And for 'close duplicated tabs' I have two suggestions. First, I think it's more reasonable to close the other duplicated tabs and keep the currently focused one instead of keep the ordered first one(I think so) and close others including the current tab if it is not the first one. Second, it only close duplicated tabs that subject to the same window, maybe we should search and handle other windows too.
