[5.x]: Asset search doesn't find results

What happened?

Description

When searching for an asset, 0 results are returned when there are assets that match the search.

I haven't been able to reproduce on all instances of Craft so let me know what additional info you need.

Steps to reproduce

Perform search in the Assets admin or when selecting an asset on an entity.

Expected behavior

Show matching results.

Actual behavior

No results.

I think I've narrowed this down a bit. It does seem to be working now.

We added the alt attribute field to the assets. It seems like any asset that doesn't have the alt field wasn't found while searching.

Searching for an entity in an Entries was also broken at one point, but clearing the caches resolved that one.

Maybe this is something that won't be reproducible or I need to get a backup when if have the issue again.

New thought: is it the indexing. I just uploaded an image, clicked Show in folder and it couldn't find the image.

I didn't get a screenshot of that exact issue, but here's the issue on the same site.

This sounds like it could be the same issue as #18275, which should have been fixed in Craft 5.9.

Can you try clearing your data caches from the Caches utility (or php craft clear-caches/data) and then see if you continue seeing the issue occur after that?
