Spring Boot Upgrade to 3.4.0 - Summary Report

Overview

Successfully upgraded Spring Framework (Spring Boot) from version 3.2.x to 3.4.0 across multiple projects in the DevPod multi-stack environment.

Projects Upgraded

1. Java 17 Project (/projects/java17-project/)

  • Previous Version: Spring Boot 3.2.12
  • New Version: Spring Boot 3.4.0
  • Java Version: Java 21
  • Status: ✅ Successfully upgraded and tested

2. DevPod Java Example (/projects/dev-pod-cli-project/examples/java/)

  • Previous Version: Spring Boot 3.2.0
  • New Version: Spring Boot 3.4.0
  • Java Version: Java 21
  • Status: ✅ Successfully upgraded and tested

Changes Made

1. POM.xml Updates

  • Updated spring-boot-starter-parent version to 3.4.0
  • Updated spring.boot.version property to 3.4.0
  • Upgraded Maven compiler plugin from 3.11.0 to 3.13.0
  • Ensured Java 21 compatibility

2. Application Code Updates

  • Updated API welcome message to reflect new Spring Boot version
  • Updated health endpoint service description
  • Updated application.properties application name

3. Environment Setup

  • Installed OpenJDK 21 JDK for compilation support
  • Configured JAVA_HOME to use Java 21
  • Verified Maven build compatibility

Notes

  • Spring Boot 3.5.x: The request was for Spring Boot 3.5, but this version is not yet released. Upgraded to 3.4.0 which is the latest stable version.
  • Java 21: Maintained Java 21 compatibility for both projects
  • Backward Compatibility: All existing functionality preserved
  • DevPod Environment: All changes compatible with DevPod development environment
