Are there any plans to merge 4chanXT into this project?

Now that 4chan-xt is dead I am wondering what will happen next. Years ago I remember you being interested in the porting effort from CoffeeScript to typescript but as 4chan-xt as a project reached maturity it also eventually started accepting feature requests and diverging from the original with new features and interface changes.

Do you think 4chan-xt is good enough to merge it back into the original project and leave behind CoffeeScript? If I remember correctly there were still some unresolved issues like circular dependencies and some unspecified issue with the crx extension. If not as a complete replacement, maybe it could be merged into a dedicated branch so it can integrate eventual upstream changes in case of future 4chan changes. What do you think? And thanks for still fixing this script after all this time.

There was also #3339 which gave other people release capabilities back in early 2023. I think that same year, I went through and closed a lot of open/outstanding issues, closed duplicates of what I could, and labelled/tagged what I thought might help organise issues that needed to be "solved" for someone who could/would continue. The whole thing is ripe for a rewrite, as I'm sure 1) a lot of the ~1000 open issues are related to browser issues from 10 years ago and extension conflicts that either don't exist or don't happen any more and 2) a lot of the code itself targets or has workarounds for outdated browsers and was written before ES5/ES6 features existed.

I feel someone could always pick up from the original PR (where it was still just the straight conversion, before additional features were added/changed) if they wanted. Or, just continue from where XT left off, addressing any outstanding issues from both forks.

I agree that it would make more sense to fork XT, but it would be good if they had it with open collaboration so that anyone could come in and provide fixes and functionality to keep a centralized script/add-on/extension so people wouldn't have to constantly shuffle between scripts whenever the creator/host loses interest.

It would make even more sense to just add the XT features people really want into this project so we don't have to keep making forks and starting new projects. A merge isn't necessary. We just need the user-facing features that made XT unique like the auto-conversion of webp into png when uploading.

The only issue with that is the 1000 issues that exist on this repo which are mostly antiquated and often personal conflicts. It would be wonderful if someone took the time to prune through them all to see what is even still applicable, but I feel that's a bit of a fool's errand. Further, ccd0's presence is scant, we'd need an active and busying effort from them in order merge in XT and come up with measures to hand off the maintenance to the community without risk of mucking up the code with frivolous shit that any ole passerby throws in as a joke.

I agree that it would be nice to just be "X" again and continue with this repo, but I feel that comes with a lot more baggage and efforts than anyone would really like to burden themselves with.

The dev should just use an auto-pruning bot to get rid of any issue that is 6 months old and doesn't get any comments. That way, only the issues people care about will still remain open.

The reason nobody contributes to this project is because of coffeescript. XT was originally supposed to be a rewrite in TS but it just ended up adding more and more after it stabilized. Merging XT without the new features would be a good start but I am unsure of the intentions of ccd0. Maybe he just prefers XT to be its own thing. I remember him being in favor of the XT rewrite the last time I saw him posting on /g/ just before TuxedoTako actively started porting this project to TS.

A community maintained fork of XT is good in practice but not every proposed or well coded feature is worth adding. I remember someone asking for manual image hash reshuffle once and that request was denied because it arguably incentivized spam/shitposting
