Not working well on OS X anymore?

Even with the chmod +x, the OS X app fails instantly claiming it is "damaged" and should be thrown away. That seems to be Gatekeeper, and can be disabled/bypassed, but the app also just doesn't do anything on 10.9. There's a menu for StenoTutor, but no window is created and nothing ever happens. I don't have the tools to hand to try to rebuild this or otherwise investigate.

Hi seebs, did you manage to solve this?
At the moment I cannot look into this (beside not having a Mac to hand). Can you try to download the latest Processing IDE, open the project with it and export it (Ctrl+E)? Current binaries were generated with an outdated Processing version, so it is likely that this would solve the issue... please let me know if it does.

I don't know what a Processing IDE is. I can try to find it and figure
this out, but it might take quite a while to resolve.

Processing (http://processing.org/download/) is a very simple application that compiles source code into binary files. It is very user friendly, so you shouldn't have particular issues. After exporting as explained above, you should find Mac binaries inside a subfolder named "application.macosx".
Let me know if you run into any issue.

Huh. No luck. First I apparently had to rename the directory, because it can't be named "StenoTutor-master", it has to be named "StenoTutor". I guess. I don't know, maybe I opened the wrong file. I asked it to export as an application, and it produced dark red text on a black background saying:

No library found for guru.ttslib
Libraries must be installed in a folder named 'libraries' inside the 'sketchbook' folder.

I have no idea what that means.

A little more poking about, and I was able to, at least for testing purposes, just comment out all the TTS stuff, which produced an application which does the exact same thing the other one does: It "starts", but no window ever opens and nothing happens. Haven't got much clue where to look next.

I note that the "play" button in Processing seems to work.

Do you mean that with "play" you are able to use StenoTutor, but not with the generated app?
If that's the case, then I don't know what's wrong with the generated app... anyone else having the same issues with OS X 10.9?

As regards the TTS lib, you can find it here http://www.local-guru.net/blog/pages/ttslib or download directly from here http://www.local-guru.net/projects/ttslib/ttslib-0.4.zip
This library is only responsible for text to speech, so you can you can probably live without, otherwise you have to copy the content of the zip file in a folder named 'libraries' inside the 'sketchbook' folder. The sketchbook folder is usually inside the user 'documents' folder, or inside 'documents/Processing'.

Yeah, play works, generated app doesn't. It doesn't blow up due to code signing or anything, it just Nothing Happens. No window ever opens.

I'm glad it works, at least with the play button. But I have no idea what's happening on your Mac when launching the StenoTutor app...

I have gotten it working on MacOS X (and also with Processing 3.x). I have a branch with the changes (https://github.com/rdunlop/StenoTutor/tree/update_source_to_compile_with_processing_3)

I hope to clean it up and create a PR against the mainline soon-ish.
