Not registering input

I am running windows 8 64 bit. StenoTutor opens fine for me (both the 32 and 64 bit versions). It also registers normal keystrokes correctly with plover open but stopped. However, once I start plover running it stops registering any input except, strangely enough, *. Plover works fine in other programs (text editor, browser, etc). Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I have no idea why that is happening. Do you get any error in the console launched with StenoTutor? Also, what version of Plover are you using? And version of StenoTutor?

I'm using Plover 2.5.6, 0.1.4 StenoTutor, and there are no errors in the console. I should also note that if I put plover back into an "off" state then StenoTutor goes back to registering regular keystrokes.

I may have a lead on a fix, but I still can't tell you what the problem is. I recently built my own version of plover from source, but being on a 64 bit system I had to remove pywinauto (this meant rolling back a file). The version without pywinauto seems to play fine with stenoTutor, at least on my first test. So it seems like my problem was some product of the way pywinauto was sending input to StenoTutor. I hope this helps you track down the problem, if you can.

It is possible that this is related to other issues that Plover has with some installations of windows8... I contacted the current developer of Plover about this and he said he will look into it to see if he can help me and figure this out.
As a temporary workaround, please consider installing Plover+StenoTutor on a virtual machine (I suggest Oracle VM VirtualBox) with GNU/Linux or a previous version of windows.
