Description
Description:
Cyberbullying and doxing on social platforms can cause anxiety, depression and even real world harm when private information is exposed or harassment is spread. Toxic negativity, in the form of harsh insults and hate speech, makes the online environment feel unsafe. Toxic positivity, by forcing cheerfulness or dismissing real concerns, leaves people feeling unheard. These behaviors break down trust, isolate the most vulnerable and discourage honest conversation. Adding features that filter harmful content and offer timely support can help protect users and foster healthier online communities.
Ideas for the implementation
Here are a list of some general ideas for a userscript solution that can be designed specifically to target certain platforms while the user navigates and utilizes their service.
-
Sentiment‑Based Comment Filter
Automatically analyze the sentiment of incoming comments (e.g. via a lightweight JS library or API).
Hide or collapse comments below a negativity threshold, replacing them with a “Hidden (Negative)” placeholder the user can click to reveal if they choose. -
“Friendly Reminder” Pop‑Up for Specific Language
Detect harassing keywords or bullying phrases as the user types a comment.
Before the comment posts, show a gentle prompt: “This comment seems harsh—are you sure you want to post it?”
Offer alternatives (“Consider rewording more constructively”). -
Positive‑Quote Injection
Every N minutes or after X page interactions, inject a small, dismissible banner at the top of the feed with an uplifting quote or affirmation.
Rotate quotes from a built‑in list or pull from a public API (e.g. Zen Quotes). -
Stress‑Buster Break Scheduler
Track time spent actively scrolling or interacting.
After a preset interval (e.g. 30 minutes), overlay a friendly reminder: “Take a 2‑minute break—stretch, breathe, smile!”
Include a countdown timer before automatically disappearing. -
“Support Squad” Highlight
Allow the user to tag certain friends as their “Support Squad.”
Boost visibility of comments/likes from those friends by highlighting them in a gentle color or moving them to the top of the comment thread. -
Anonymous Venting Box
Inject an always‑available sidebar widget where users can anonymously “vent” free‑form text that’s saved locally (no network send).
Provide a character counter encouraging short, cathartic entries.
Include a “Download your notes” button so they can export or delete them later. -
Dox‑Shield Masking
Scan posts and comments for patterns that look like personal info (emails, phone numbers, addresses).
Automatically blur or obfuscate those sequences, replacing them with “[Redacted]” until the user hovers to reveal. -
Customized Color‑Mood Themes
Offer a toggle between “Calm Mode” (soft pastel backgrounds, lower contrast) and “Energize Mode” (brighter accents).
Let the user choose a theme that feels soothing when the feed feels overwhelming. -
Auto‑Block Trolls by Behavior
Keep a local log of users who repeatedly trigger your sentiment filter (e.g. >3 negative comments in 1 week).
Automatically blacklist them (their comments/posts are hidden by default). -
Instant SOS Resource Link
If the user types or if the script detects words/phrases indicating distress (“I can’t go on,” “worthless,” etc.), pop up a discreet link to mental health hotlines or resources (e.g. 988 in the U.S.) before letting them continue scrolling.
