MacOS support ?

First of all thanks for this awesome work. I was trying to work on it using zig and make it cross platform but didn't succeed. Are you planning to make it a cross platform?.

And also I am making a vicinae extension for it. Thanks again !

Hi! Thank you so much for the kind words. I am so excited to hear you're making an extension with this project.

To answer your question about cross-platform support, the project is fully self contained with zero C dependencies so you don't need zig or any external linkers to cross compile the codebase. Go can do it natively to any target, example:
GOOS=darwin GOARCH=arm64 go build ./cmd/kcd

So yes the code can compile to any platform, with the integrations being the hard part. The project is deeply Linux-specific for all the plugins to work; example D-bus (mpris), sshfs (SFTP mount), wl-clipboard/xclip (clipboard). systemd service templates, XDG directories e.t.c

On non-Linux platforms, these plugins will currently fail gracefully or be disabled.

A MacOS version is absolutely possible by using a mac specific fallback for each plugin, but it's currently not worth the maintenance and release effort.

My current focus is on Linux and getting the kde-connect protocols as correct as I can while keeping it lightweight.

However, I am fully open to making the core experience cross-platform, so if you or anyone would like to work on this then i will gladly accept those pull requests.

No no, I meant a separate project.

ooh I see 😅, I'd recommend you proceed. I'd love to read different implementations especially zig and how you get it cross-platform
