Current State (2026-05-17)

Architecture Today

• Runtime: Python 3.11 / PRAW, Docker container on Hetzner (redditmodlog-opensignups.internal)
• Image: ghcr.io/baker-scripts/redditmodlog:1 (s6-overlay)
• Storage: SQLite (modlog.db) — dedup + 365-day retention
• Polling: Every 22 minutes, batch size 500
• Output: Formatted markdown table → subreddit wiki page (wiki/modlog)
• Active subreddit: r/OpenSignups
• Config: JSON file with Reddit OAuth creds + behavior settings
• Moderator anonymization: Enforced (app refuses to start if disabled)

What the bot does

1. Polls Reddit modlog API via PRAW
2. Stores actions in SQLite (deduplication by action ID)
3. Formats last 90 days of configured action types into a markdown table
4. Publishes to the subreddit's wiki page (max 1000 entries per page)
5. Configured actions: removelink, removecomment, spamlink, spamcomment, addremovalreason, approvelink, approvecomment

Branch Cleanup (done)

• vibes branch deleted (40+ unmerged commits — PRAW improvements including multi-sub DB, removal reason display, wiki hash caching, force-refresh). None of this work landed on main.
• fix/regenerate-secrets-baseline and fix/systemd-url local branches deleted (squash-merged via PRs fix: update systemd service documentation URL to baker-scripts #14, fix: regenerate secrets baseline #15)
• Repo now has only main

Devvit Migration Requirements

• Motivation: Reddit API deprecation pressure + real-time events (no polling) + eliminate self-hosted infra
• Output: Must still write to subreddit wiki page (same format as today)
• Scope: Multi-subreddit installable app from day one
• Stack: TypeScript, Devvit platform (Reddit's developer platform)

Blocking Question

Can Devvit write to wiki pages? The REST API docs say no, but the @devvit/public-api SDK types may expose context.reddit.getWikiPage() / editWikiPage(). This needs verification against the actual SDK source before committing to the architecture.

Next Steps

1. Verify wiki write capability in @devvit/public-api (check GitHub source or scaffold a test app)
2. If wiki write works: design Devvit app architecture (triggers → Redis → scheduler → wiki)
3. If wiki write doesn't work: evaluate alternatives (post-based output, or hybrid with external wiki writer)
4. Scaffold Devvit project in this repo (new branch or replace main)
