Vim: caret jumps to matching word during search within a file

Description

This was a tricky one to repro. I'll attach a video to help. Not only it warps the caret, it also eats some of the words I typed.

Repro Steps

1. Have vim mode enabled
2. Head over to a file
3. Enable search and look for a word
4. Back to the buffer, navigate away from the matching word
5. Try to type something on your new active buffer index
6. Notice it warps me back to the matching word
