Dear Developers,
First of all, thanks for this great software. It has been helping me to monitor some failing disks so I could back them up as soon as possible.

Now, I run GSmartControl v2.0.2 on a new Windows 11 OS. It turns out that it cannot recognise my MSI SSD.
Please advice.

My system is Windows 11 Pro Workstation v25H2; GSmartControl v2.0.2.

I connected my 2.5" external MSI SSD through a SATA-USB3 interface cable to my computer. Then, I formatted this external USB SSD as MS ReFS file system. I then set it as a fixed disk under its Windows disk management policy.

Then, I ran GSmartControl to scan all my disk. All others were detected as Smart disks except the one in the question (the one pointed by a red arrow). The yellow disk is unimportant because it is a RAM disk.

Then, I double-clicked its icon and the errors log were shown as below:

A valid Smart Disk has its Smart Property Tabs displayed upon its icon being double-clicked.

As discussed in ticket #69, while your SSD may be supported, it is not in practice due to how it is linked to the CPU. See smartmontools's page on USB to SATA bridges. I suggest:

1. Retitling this more specifically, for example:

   USB Attached SCSI (UAS) external SATA drive shown as "Unknown model" ("IOCTL_SCSI_PASS_THROUGH_DIRECT failed, Error=1117")

2. Testing whether this persists with smartmontools 7.5, and if so, reporting the error to smartmontools.

Yes, there is problem with this version. It used to be very easy to run Gsmartmon and smarttools.

I will report these to them.

My last SSD was detected by smarttool as to be going bad. So I bought this new one. Very nice tool.

It can detect much better than Windows does. It can even detect failing disk before it begins to spin noisy.

Not the same interface cable, nor the same external SSD drive. Both of them are retired.

Right now, there are a new interface cable and and a new external SSD drive.

Oh, well in that case I doubt your issue is specific to that version. Unless you can use the same equipment with previous versions, I would guess no released smartmontools version supports your hardware.

a new 2.5" SSD drive, not the chewing gum NVMe.
