How can I even get started with say calc.exe using CodedUI

I've downloaded the projects and I already have a basic codedui project using a UIMap that launches the windows calculator. I can't seem to figure out how to begin to use your framework and extensions. Could you post a sample for CodedUI?

I've gone ahead and forked and added a sample for CodedUI with the calculator.

What I don't know how to do is NOT reference a UIMap. Here is the line of code I want to change so I don't reference a UIMap.
Mouse.Click(UIMap.UICalculatorWindow.Find<WinButton>(By.Name("1")));

If my application has multiple windows where the title bar changes how do I search and find the windows.

Hi Ian,

I apologize for not responding yet (I was very busy this week...). Anyway, you can get the calculator window like this:
var calc = Process.Start("calc.exe");
Wait.Until(() => calc.GetCurrentMainWindowTitle() == "Calculator", 30.Seconds());
var calcWindow = UITestControlFactory.FromWindowHandle(calc.MainWindowHandle);

I'll try to send a complete example later on.

Arnon,Thanks so much for the feedback and the code sample. I've update the code to use ApplicationUnderTest.Launch as that appears to be a best practice from Microsoft.

Thanks a lot for helping me improve the project by adding samples! I appreciate it a lot!

Unfortunately I have a problem opening Coded UI projects on my laptop right now :-(
Anyway I took a glimpse at your code and I have few comments:

1. In the test method, instead of:
   Mouse.Click(calcApp.Find<WinButton>(By.Name("1")));
   You can write:
   calcApp.Find<WinButton>(By.Name("1")).Click();
2. When using Assert.AreEqual, the first argument is the expected result and the second is the actual. This comes into affect when the assertion fails and the message that is written tells what was expected and what was the actual. If you switch them the error message can be very confusing!
3. I don't think that you should depend on an environment variable to know where Calc.exe is. First, it's normally in the PATH so if you just use "calc.exe" it should be found. If you want to be more precise you can use Path.Combine(Environment.SystemDirectory, "calc.exe")

I genuinely appreciate your feedback so I've added 5 additional test examples.
I decided to expand a sample to work with the menuitems, but I am unable to get a working example with the menuitems.

If you have any sample that works with GetChildren and menuitems I'd love to build out several additional samples around the mortgage calculator.

Hi arnonax,
I've incorporated your feedback and have the Help/About dialog working and with a proper assert.
Here is the commit:

I've also added a mortgage monthly payment example.
