Trouble loading HSMP module into Kernel

After successfully building the ESMI library and HSMP driver from GitHub, my customer is having difficulty using the 'modprobe' command to start the HSMP driver. Error below.

modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'amd_hsmp': No such device

Hardware Environment:
AMD EPYC 9745 in Lenovo SR635 v3

OS environment:
Linux campillos 6.8.0-85-generic #85-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu Sep 18 15:26:59 UTC 2025 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Please can you offer some advice on how to troubleshoot this.

I should also say that the HSMP Support option in the BIOS is Enabled

Please try inserting hsmp_acpi instead of amd_hsmp.

Sorry, I thought more info sections were available. Even without loading the amd_hsmp module, it works properly, right?

yes correct, the platform which you have, needs hsmp_common and hsmp_acpi. For older platforms (some of the models of 0x19 family) need amd_hsmp and hsmp_common.

Thanks Sumachidanand. Juan will try controlling the SMU now with the E-SMI tool.

As an aside, Lenovo have also been looking at this. Their feedback is that AMD should add something to dmesg for hsmp as it's very silent.
