In the Information Age, the tools and processes for managing knowledge become increasingly more important. The need for a logical way to organize and control revisions has existed for almost as long as writing has existed. Examples from the print-only era include the numbering of book editions and of specification revisions. Currently the most capable and complex revision control systems are used in software development.

If you use a computer to write, you should be using Git

There is a long list of version control systems. However, we need only concern ourselves with what is curently the most widely adopted, Git. Git's popularity is due to the fact that it outperforms other version management tools like Subversion, CVS, Perforce, and ClearCase.

Git was created by Linus Torvalds in 2005 for development of the Linux kernel, with other kernel developers contributing to its initial development. Git is free software distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License version 2. Git is a free and open source, easy to learn and has a tiny footprint with lightning fast performance.

While browsing you can high-light text, or portions of screen, and make notes against these highlights. The highlights can be tagged for type and category. All content is cached and a full trail is stored. There is the ability to analyse the cache and match it to outputs as a means to consolidate the cache. All links are extracted from the text and displayed.
