Utah Branding Updates to websites #955

Description

@chriswnek

Benefit

On Tuesday, March 31st, we will officially release Utah Design System v5.0. This update introduces a refreshed look for all State of Utah websites and new tools to help us communicate more effectively with the public.

What is Changing?

The most visible change you will notice is a new "Official website of the State of Utah" verification bar at the top of every page. This replaces the old "Utah, an official website" graphic and is designed to provide immediate proof to visitors that they are on a secure, government-sanctioned platform.

Other key features include:

  • System-Wide Notifications: A new tool powered by MyUtah that allows for important updates to be shared across the entire state web ecosystem.
  • Updated Typography: A new official state font, UT Industry, which will automatically update in the header text, and be available to use on your website for headings.
  • Brand Colors: Updated color palettes and brand icons that provide a cohesive look across all state agencies.

When is this Happening?

  • Release Date: March 31st.
  • Automatic Rollout: If your website is a WordPress site hosted on WP Engine, the new header will be automatically deployed in the days following the release. If you’re not using the Utah Header this will not affect your site. This update will not impact your existing page content, color, or branding.
  • Preview: You can see these changes in action now on the current Governor and Lt. Governor websites.

Important Next Steps

  • Branding Changes: Before implementing any new state branding, logos, or colors on your pages, you must coordinate with your agency’s Communications Team. Agencies are required to have their branding proposal reviewed and approved by the Governor's Office before making the transition.
  • Notifications: The new notification feature is disabled by default. Agencies interested in its use must first consult with their leadership before following the setup instructions.

For technical instructions or to see the new color and font options, please visit the Utah Header v5 Setup Guide.

Logo & Color Palette Guidelines

  • For gis.utah.gov, we should use the header provided to us by GovOps. This is to remain consistent with all other GovOps websites (blue version)

  • For all other apps, if the app name includes "Utah", for example "Utah State Parcels", use the Industry version of the State logo. Otherwise, use the Utah logo.

  • Here is our shared drive folder with all of the assets that we have received.

  • Here is where GovOps is tracking this project

Acceptance Criteria

Notes

  • For logo guidelines, the initial info we received for using the Industry logo was to use it if the app name "started" with Utah. "Atlas Utah" doesn't start with it, but includes it. So the assumption is that "Atlas Utah", or other apps with names like it, should also use the Industry logo.
  • As part of the migration to UDS v5.0, we'll need to remove the UGRC Media Kit from the website. Maybe we can still have Wavy Gravy live on in the History page?
