Oh gosh what a lovely comment.

The periods are for dramatic effect. I've been clear across the Subreddit r/compilers I originally posted to where I've used LLMs (The original architecture ASCII art right above this in the readme was generated by chatgpt which I had to heavily edit). The notgpt.cu file is quite literally vibe coded CUDA that I used to throw at my compiler. This was a Readme I whacked together at zero dark thirty in the morning and asked people on a Compiler reddit to critique. I was excited I made a compiler. I'm just a dude. We're allowed to be excited about things. I've already been removing some of the original readme/editing it because it kinda came across as midnight arrogance and I didn't want to come across as putting down the incredible work of so many people that I look up to.

The compiler textbook in question I've been using is this one. Cannot recommend Steven Muchnick's book enough. I've also got to thank the incredible mainframe folks in the CBT tape community; parts of the compilers they've preserved informed parts of this project.

I'll do a rewrite of the readme later, especially because now I have an audience I do want to credit some of the incredible folks who've helped / I look up to within the low level/compiler world. But I'll do that once I have some time, when I've finished making sure things like the compound assignment operators work so people can compile real CUDA without a rewrite, finishing adding more support for AMD architectures like GFX 1010 which I'll test on my old gaming laptop and finishing up on some tenstorrent support.

You're more than welcome to read this code. Or not. I really do not mind.

Would like to share a few thoughts here:

1. The fact that LLM tools were used for parts of the code or docmentation is, by itself, not a meaningful critiicism. Tools are tools. What ultimaetly matters is the quality of the result.

2. The relevant question is whether the code and docuentation have been reviewed for correctness and clarity. Errors can originate from humans just as easily as from AI assistance. The author has also been transparent about using these tools, which demonstrates good faith rathr than negligence.

3. AI-assisted devlopment is simply an evolution of workflows developers have used for years... searching documentation, reading blog posts, using SO, reusing boilerplate, and automating repetitiive tasks. These tools accelerate iteration and reduce friction, but repsondibiity for the output still lies with the developer.

4. Dismissing an otherwise valuable and technically challenging project such as this solely because AI tools were involved shifts the focus away from substantive critique. If there are specific technical issues, inaccuracies, or areas for improvement, those would be much more constructive to discuss.

5. Open-source thrives on collaboration and good-faith contributions. If parts of the README or code can be improved, suggesting concrete edits or submitting a PR would be far more helpful than broad dismissals.

Constructive feedback moves projects forward, blanket condemnation does not.

Don't be like that. It's not blanket condemnation. I'm not here to hurt anyone's feelings.

It's just undignified to have blatant ai slop on the front page of the readme. The first thing anyone sees when they look at the project.

If I received this GitHub issue on my project, I would simply fix it. A few seconds to re-word a few sentences.

It's quite obvious to anyone who regularly speaks with LLMs. It's like fingernails on a chalk board and evokes visceral reactions.
