• that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Game spams the log file when using "PROTON_LOG=1" and gets to big to be uploaded. (6GB raw, 200mb archived) If there is an alternative where I can upload it I will gladly do so.

EDIT: Managed to get a Proton log that is small enough to upload here. This is only logging during the splash screen when launching the game. Everything else gets to big to quick. It seems to be spamming the same stuff over and over.

Symptoms

• Severe stutters. Some of them are visible in frametimes (world loading) but some cannot be seen in the frame graph. (Game does not move for a fraction of time)
• Turning ray tracing on crashes the game with GPU Error.
• On Startup game only shows a black screen until window is manually focused. (Fixed in experimental-bleeding-edge-11.0-362204-20260515-p0e017a-wa4366f-d60978e-vd27571)

I'm guessing the fix for black screen is just adding FH6 id to force_below_hack

also getting the same stutters and game crashing if ray tracing is turned on with 9070xt on KDE plasma. kernel 7.0.5-2-cachyos mesa 26.1.0. i tried the default proton that steam selected which was 10.0, experimental, bleeding edge, proton-ge and proton-cachyos all have the issues. the stutters manifest in an odd and very unpleasing way too where it slows the game down briefly during the sutter

For Nvidia GPUs, the game seems to universally crash at higher graphical settings with a FHC00 error. It only seems to happen when the GPU is near maxxed out. Ray tracing also does not work at all, though I'd guess it's due to the same reasons higher graphical settings don't work, as it throws the same error.

To repro, try launching the game at maxxed settings and observe the crash. At min settings it should launch and play fine.

I have also tried all the proton versions.

7900XTX, mesa 26.1.0, 7.0.6-1-cachyos, Hyprland v0.55.1.

If you park your car and, in third person, look around slowly, frame times will be extremely consistent (~9.5ms for me). If you start spinning the camera around fast (via mouse or controller), it will become a stuttery mess (0.4ms min, 70ms max). GPU usage stays at 99% while this is happening. Driving, or doing donuts, does not cause this to happen even though the camera movement is the same.

While driving frametimes are also inconsistent, but not always. It will be smooth for several seconds, then randomly frametimes will double or triple. It could last for only a couple frames, or upwards of a full second before returning to normal. When this happens, physics seem to slow down which makes driving almost impossible. Limiting FPS to 60 mostly resolves this. VSync does not effect it.

Adding some more details, to show how bad the stuttering is (dualboot). Fingers crossed MS will assist since it's steam deck verified.

runs much smoother on windows for me too now that i moved the game to my windows drive. it still has some stutters and they do exhibit the same very distracting physics slowdown as on linux but they are far less frequent on windows making it far more playable

I wouldn't say unofficial per se, as Playground themselves say that they support Steam Deck, but nothing more than that (and thus they only support the specific hardware configuration that deck provides), but honestly it could go either way.

This is what I'm experiencing too broadly speaking. I have observed that GPU usage spikes, and then crashes to 0 as the application becomes unresponsive and then has to be killed, or wait for its crash reporter to kick in.

I managed to get a proton log that is small enough to upload to GitHub and added it to the main post.

This is only what happens during the initial splash screen of the game as everything else gets to big to quickly. I hope it's still useful. The log where I let the full benchmark run trough is over 6GB.

This is identical behavior to my experiences.

It's worth noting that PROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1 seems to be a cachy-proton specific flag as some users have reported.

I'm using Fedora 44 KDE with those flags (in an attempt to get it to work), but still face crashes. I've found that turning down the graphics settings helps alleviate some but not all. For reference it defaulted to the 'Extreme' preset for my system, but I've had to turn that down all the way to medium.
More specifically: PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HIDRAW=1 PROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=no_upload_hvv,single_queue GST_PLUGIN_FEATURE_RANK=protonvideoconvert:MAX %command%
(I found it on a reddit comment and it seems to somewhat work)
