Add figure and table referencing

A twitter comment has asked for suggestions regarding figure and table referencing.

Great guided notes. Do you have a suggestion for numbering and referring to tables and figures?

I need to add these into the Rmarkdown notes to show how to do this when making a PDF output (LaTeX code should work). I'm not sure if this can be done with DOCX, but I'll look into it.

This appears to require the bookdown package in R to work, and will only apply to PDF. It will also probably not make the DOCX or HTML output look as desired, so I am reluctant to recommend this to people just getting started with using Rmarkdown to write manuscripts.
