Weather wind speed in m/s

I hope it's ok to request a feature here in issues.
Would it be possible to have an option to select between different units, please? At the moment the weather gadget shows wind speed in km/h but I would much rather see the speed in m/s.

Hello! Glad you are enjoying the Gadgets!
The units of measure are coming straight from The Weather Channel (weather.com), and depend partly on your locale. As far as I can tell, TWC uses metric units (e.g., km/h) everywhere except the US (imperial) and the UK (hybrid).

That said, TWC does support another variation for the units of measure, "metric SI", which is exactly like "metric" except that wind speed is m/s instead of km/h.

There are two problems with using "metric SI" as far as I can tell.

First, I cannot find any resource on TWC that tells me which locales (or country codes) use "metric" vs "metric SI". If you know of a way to get this info, I'd love to hear it. Wikipedia, Google, etc., have not been much help. I don't want to change "metric" to "metric SI" for every country that uses metric and have 10000 Gadgets users yelling at me to change it back. As I mentioned above, TWC appears to use km/h everywhere I looked, though I did not check every location they support.

Second, unrelated to TWC, the Gadgets is using the Rainmeter community-sourced package put together by jsmorley and a bunch of us on the Rainmeter forum. Using this package allows anyone to easily create really accurate weather skins. This package currently does not support the "metric SI" units, so this would require change to the JSON template files. I don't mind making changes to the Gadgets copy of these files, but it is a bit of a maintenance PITA if the "master" set of includes are ever changed.

So if you can contribute to the first item (i.e., tell me which countries use "m/s" vs "km/h"), I'll do the second item.

Otherwise, you can edit the skin directly and force the skin to convert km/h to m/s. The fix would only work for you and your locale, but it's pretty easy. Here's what you'd do:

• Open the file ...\Skins\Gadgets\@Resources\WeatherComJSONMeasures5Day.inc using Notepad or your preferred text editor.
• Find the measure [@UnitsSpeed] and change the Substitute line to this:
  Substitute="^m$":"m/s","^e$":"mph","^h$":"mph"
• Find the measure [@CurrentWindSpeed]. Change the name of this measure by removing the "@" character.
• Below that measure, add a new measure named [@CurrentWindSpeed] that looks like so:

Formula = Round(0[CurrentWindSpeed] * 0.277778, 0)
DynamicVariables=1

• Save the file and refresh the skin. You should now see the wind speed in m/s.

I'm not 100% sure but as far as I know at least these countries use m/s in their local forecasts services: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Estonia.
