AWS_ROLE issue running function

After set up of the api integration in Snowflake and creating the external function, any call to the function results in the following error:

SQL execution error: Error assuming AWS_ROLE. Please verify that the principal and externalId are configured correctly in your role's trust relationship policy.

This has been working OK until 2 days ago.
