Page title
Run an ONTAP efficiency operation based on the amount of new data written
Summary
"after the previous efficiency operation"
What exactly does this refer to?
Is it the size of the existing, deduplication- and compression-processed used data?
Or is it the new written data size before deduplication and compression?
"exceeds a specified threshold percentage"
This refers to the default 20% as described below, right?
"The default threshold value is 20 percent."
Again, there are similar expressions below, but "the total number of blocks already processed" of what?
"This threshold value is the percentage of the total number of blocks already processed by the efficiency operation."
Please clarify the numerator and denominator.
In my actual testing, writing new 500GB of data to a FlexVolume on a 10TB volume did not trigger deduplicating and compression. Even manually running storage efficiency start did not reduce the capacity. However, when I changed the FlexVolume size to 600GB, running storage efficiency start did reduce the capacity.
