Images and AbiWord

I tried to insert some "dynamic" images, generated from django (ImageFields) in the odt template.
Pasting an image from a website and then changing the image url to something like http://mywebsite.com{{ mymodel.photo.url }} works with the odt format, however when using the abiword backend to generate a doc or pdf the image is removed.
How can I solve this? Is that the right way to insert images or is there a better way?
