Feature requests -> Select & Icons.

Hi,

Just started using NSPanel, and it works really nice. Using it with HA & Node-Red without issues.

Just a couple of feature requests.

1. Be able to use HA Input Selects, you currently have button & switch, I can do it using multiple switches and using Node-Red to make the switches act like a radio groups (tried it and it works), but the Select would be much nicer.. :)

2. Be able to select ICON's for entities, ideally using the ICON's from HA, but I can see this might be tricky. I did try using some Unicode glyphs, but of course that did not work, does the font you use on the panel have any built in glyphs?. Another option might be to go old school and just allow an 8x8 or 16x16 pixel grid for creating low res Icons with.

Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately the Nextion display is really limited. I think @cablesandcoffee is best suited to explain that.

Using selects is not really on the list of to-dos, I'm not quite sure as to how to implement that best. Perhaps a toggle so you can choose the next or previous option as there may be more than 4 options.

Hi, yes, I'm no expert on the Nextion display, that's why I thought keeping it simple for the icons. I did think of a better idea, what if you could make it so that you could just send commands directly, maybe have some global's say gx,gy,gc to pass the x,y and maybe color. and then something like below would be an example of creating and X with a circle in the centre.

line gx,gy,gx+10,gy+10,gc
line gx+10,gy,gx,gy+10,gc
cirs gx+5,gy+5,2,gc

Basically like a poor mans SVG, :) You would of course have some standard size specifications that the user would need to keep too etc,. But would give you lots of flexibility on Icon design, users could even share there designs by just copying pasting the text. Of course the Icons wouldn't want to be too complex, as the commands would need to pass over the serial, but the version of Nextion display used in the NSPanel seems to have Circle / Box & Line so should be able to create lots of variations of icons without too much text.

For the Select, I wasn't thinking of anything too complex, click on the combo and another page appears with the list you can click on, a bit like when you click on a light another page appears for altering the values. If the layout was like your entities page that would give you 12 options, that I think would be plenty.

That is indeed one option to support many types of icons. The main drawback is that it's actually quite slow. It would work but mainly for very small icons, such as on the entities page where each icon is maybe 16x16 pixels or so. But perhaps it's worth exploring.
